Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice...turn around...dont drown.

...Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...
The Flood Watch continues for
* a portion of southeast Texas...including the following
 counties...Austin...Brazoria...Brazos...Burleson...Chambers...
 Colorado...Fort Bend...Galveston...Grimes...Harris...Houston...
 Jackson...Liberty...Madison...Matagorda...Montgomery...Polk...
 San Jacinto...Trinity...Walker...Waller...Washington and
 Wharton.
* Through this evening
* a tropical air mass combined with an upper level disturbance
will cause wide spread showers and thunderstorms. Some areas
have already received 1 to 3 inches of rainfall the last
couple of days which has saturated grounds. Some storms will
be capable of rainfall rates of 2 inches an hour which could
overwhelm drainage basins causing flooding. Storms will also
be moving slowly and could move over areas that received heavy
rainfall further adding to the flood threat. Area bayous may
quickly respond with rapid rises. Overall the area could see
another 1 to 3 inches of rain with isolated 5 to 6 inch
 amounts.
* Timing -heavy rainfall expected to become more widespread late
this morning and continue into the afternoon. Storms should
dissipate by this evening with the loss of day time heating.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to
cross safely. Vehicles caught in rising water should be abandoned
quickly. If your vehicle stalls...abandon it and seek higher
ground immediately. Rapidly rising water may engulf your vehicle
and its occupants and sweep them away. Move to higher ground.
Turn around...don't drown!
